TechSmith Enhances Morae by Giving Developers the Ability to Incorporate Usability Testing into Beta Software

Developers Can Reduce Project Risk, Accelerate Time to Market by Baking Usability Testing
into Pre-Release Software Builds

Montreal, Quebec – June 28, 2005 – TechSmith Corp., the world's leading provider of screen capture and recording solutions, today announced the immediate availability of Morae 1.2, giving customers the ability to automatically collect usability data specific to their development needs. Developers are able to leverage the Morae Recorder COM server to capture usability testing data for any Windows-based application, including pre-release test builds.

The product is being showcased at UPA 2005, which runs June 27-July 1, at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, Quebec.

"Instead of just collecting bug feedback from beta versions, development organizations can also collect real usability data by quickly and easily integrating Morae's recording functionality into their applications," said Shane Lovellette, Morae Product Manager at TechSmith. "Not only does this create a more natural test environment, but it allows organizations to integrate a comprehensive, ongoing usability testing program into their development cycles with minimal effort."

Other new automation features in Morae 1.2 allow users to quickly create multiple usability highlight films to share with decision makers throughout a project. And to further enhance usability test analysis, users can import existing usability video footage they may have collected prior to deploying Morae.

"Using Morae in our usability labs has not only improved productivity for our analysts, but it has raised our client satisfaction levels substantially," said Scott Kincaid, Director of Usability Services, Usability Sciences Corporation. "With the new release, we'll be able to provide even faster recommendations to our clients by having specific interactions, that we know are critical, automatically captured, marked and segmented."

Other Morae 1.2 features include:

  • Ability to create multiple highlight videos within a single project to meet different audience requirements and to demonstrate progress throughout a project.

  • Segment Creation Wizard to streamline analysis by automatically breaking long recordings down into specific tasks based on markers.

  • Batch production of recording files and highlight videos to speed up testing sessions and post production.

  • Customizable markers that automatically appear in Remote Viewer so observers can quickly log interaction. This reduces cognitive load while making observation easier.

  • Automatic rearming of Recorder to select specific start and stop triggers without any intervention from the test subject or moderator.

  • Robust data protection that automatically recovers session data in the event of a power failure or system crash.

  • Fade and fade-out transitions between highlight clips.

About Morae
Powered by TechSmith's patent-pending Rich-Recording Technology (RRT), Morae synchronizes real-world actions, such as user speech and facial expressions, with detailed application and computer system data to present usability professionals with a unique view into the way that desktop software, Web sites, intranets and e-business applications are seen and experienced. This makes Morae the only solution that captures the total user experience by recording and synchronizing the user, the application, and the events. All data is saved and indexed automatically and can be searched with ease. Since its launch in March 2004, Morae has become the gold standard for usability testing among professionals worldwide.
