TechSmith Introduces Morae 1.3 with Fast Search, Enhanced Editing and Analysis Capabilities for Usability Testing

Streamlined Workflow, Flexible Editing Allow Usability Teams to Quickly Pinpoint and Share Precise Moments from Hours of Digital Video

Okemos, Michigan - December 5, 2005 - TechSmith Corp., the world’s leading provider of screen capture and recording solutions, today announced the immediate availability of Morae 1.3 with workflow and usability enhancements that make it easier for customers to search, analyze, and share the results of software and Web site usability tests.

“The usability community has given Morae a tremendous reception, and we expect the newest version of Morae to help us build on that momentum by adding several important features that our customers have requested,” said Shane Lovellette, Morae Product Manager at TechSmith. “The new functionality makes it easy and fast for our customers to glean critical insights into the usability of software products and Web sites, and provide comprehensive recommendations for improvements. Morae is a unique tool that helps companies close the feedback loop between customers and product developers so that products can better match the demands of the marketplace.”

Morae offers superior functionality, greater flexibility, and faster implementation time than traditional usability solutions. Those benefits are helping to break down barriers that had inhibited organizations from conducting usability testing in the past. Morae can be deployed on standard desktop and laptop computers, eliminating the need to rent expensive testing space, assemble complex hardware solutions, and hire video experts to run the equipment and edit the footage.

“When we were hired by a client to review and help launch some new software, we knew the product’s usability would be critical to its successful adoption,” said Todd Follansbee, Vice President, Web Marketing Resources. “Our previous experience with Morae convinced us to upgrade to Morae 1.3 knowing it would be the best tool. We’ve found nothing else that even comes close. We also knew the clients would be impressed. Morae has proven invaluable in the UI, helping prepare support documentation and reducing costs. Never again will we consider doing usability testing the old way.”

New features in Morae 1.3 include:

  • Zooming Timeline -- Users are able to zoom into specific moments on multi-hour timelines to quickly focus on areas of interest from a given test session, potentially saving dozens of man-hours on large projects.
  • Streamlined Editing -- Users may modify the start and end of a recorded usability segment to eliminate uneventful testing footage and cut to important sections of a test session to increase the productivity of the testing staff.
  • Global Clip Bin (with List View) -- This makes it easy to find the right usability clip fast and create more insightful highlight videos for decision makers.
  • Enhanced Workflow -- Users have the flexibility to edit segments, splice together clips, and adjust Picture-in-Picture footage to create perfect highlight videos.
  • Customizable Title Clips -- Usability consultants may personalize clips with corporate logos, images, and graphics for professional, polished highlight videos.
